ARS AEVI: Contemporary Art Museum

Sarajevo, Bosnia & HERZEGOVINA

2016

A PROPOSAL FOR THE ARS AEVI COLLECTION MUSEUM IN SARAJEVO, BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA. THE DESIGN FOCUSES ON THE CONCEPT OF REJUVENATION AFTER THE CITY’S THREE YEAR BOUT WITH CIVIL WAR. THE MASSING OF THE PROPOSAL IS BASED IN THE IDEA OF THE EXPLOSION OF A MORTAR, THE VARIOUS FLOORS AND ROOFS ARE FRACTURED AND MOVE OUTWARD FROM A CENTRAL ATRIUM SPACE MIMICKING THE SCARING OF MORTAR BLASTS THAT CAN BE FOUND NEAR THE SITE. THE DESIGN IS ROOTED INTO THE SITE FORCING THE USER TO DESCEND INTO A CENTRAL ATRIUM SPACE BEFORE ASCENDING UP AND AROUND TO THE VARIOUS EXHIBITS. EACH OF THE EXHIBITS, ALONG WITH THE MAIN CIRCULATION SPACES, ARE WASHED FROM ABOVE WITH NATURAL LIGHT CREATED BY VARIOUS LIGHT WELL INCISIONS IN THE ROOF AND FACADE.
