Amherst mixed-use

downtown amherst, ma

2016

This proposal for a mixed-use complex in Amherst, Ma focuses on adding a large Co-op market as well as a variety of commercial, residential  and parking spaces to downtown Amherst. My project is based in the sectional qualities of two repeating rays that extend outward from the downward sloping topography of the site, thus promoting a form that maintains an average frontage height with the surrounding context. Implementing a pedestrian-centric walkway or "mews" became a driver in my design and dictated the separation of two large volumes on either side of the site.
